"Which mirror do you like?" my sweet Mother asked her 12 year old daughter. That 12 year old was me and I couldn't have cared less. I would have scoffed at the thought that one day I would enjoy picking not only mirrors, but that I would be tickled pink to stare at hundreds of paint chips every day. So how did I get to where I am? That's a long story but I'll try to keep it short lol.
We got married at the ripe old age of 18 and moved into a little duplex. I loathed paying the rent and I hated hearing my neighbor's every move. He was quite the lady's man if you know what I mean. I searched Zillow daily, hoping to see a house we could afford. Finally, a house price dropped to 35,000 dollars- A steal! It was a fixer upper, with missing drywall, flooring, and siding, had some crunchy purple carpet, but it would be ours and I would live in a cardboard box if it was mine! Our mortgage was $500 and Elijah was making $2,000 a month so there wasn't too much left for renovations. Hiring people was out so if anything was going to get done on that house, I was going to have to do it myself.
Our first house Before
Elijah often came home to a wall being taken down, the kitchen cabinets laying all over house, or a piece of plywood being cut while balanced on the couch because I couldn't work outside in 3' of snow. (I was a weak southerner living in the frozen tundra of Colorado, y'all). We were so excited about this being our full time job, that we sold our second vehicle and shared one car so that we could pay off the loan faster and put every last penny we could into the house. The people at the lumberyard always looked at us a little odd when we would buy 2x4s with the 50 cent pieces Elijah had collected as a kid. After 3 years, our house was paid off and it was done! Every meal of beans and rice was worth it when we were able to list our house and sell it the first day on the market for $109,900!
Our first house After
From then on, we were hooked! We moved to South Carolina and bought and renovated 3 more houses. Along the way we worked on client homes-kitchens and bathrooms, added a living room addition, drew up floorplans.
Believe it or not, this is the same house. The front of the house faced the backyard so we made a porch on this side so that the side facing the road didn't look like the back of the house.
We loved the colors in this bathroom
A bathroom remodel we did for a client
This house had to get a complete layout change
We loved this life, but with our 5th on the way and homeschooling in full swing, time wasn't on our side. Enter our RV hustle...We have been renovating RVs for almost 3 years now and we have learned so much! We are now ready to pass on our hard learned lessons to others who would like to renovate their own rigs. Because we have lived in an RV for 2 years with 5 kids, we are not only able to bring construction knowledge to the table, but first hand experience of the quirks of RV living.
